Melbourne SOUP & ASRC
Story
Alongside our first ever Virtual event, we at Melbourne SOUP are raising funds to support the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre!
Founded 18 years ago, the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is Australia's largest human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum. They are an independent not-for-profit organisation whose programs support and empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being and are the largest independent human rights organisation for refugees and people seeking asylum in the country.
In these times of uncertainty, those seeking asylum and refuge are in particular need of support, so let's all get together to make a difference.
Monies raised will support the ongoing work of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) and help maintain their fierce independence so that they can continue to stand alongside people seeking asylum and create lasting social change. Funds will go where help is most urgently needed - this could be anything from foodbank, housing, casework, legal or health programs. Every dollar raised will go a long way!
- $27 can provide a daily hot meal & food and groceries for a week
- $38 can fund an appointment with an ASRC social worker
- $104 can provide a week of safe housing
Our Virtual SOUP event is taking place Thursday the 28th of May. It will be streamed live to the Melbourne SOUP Facebook page, from 7pm-8pm. We'll be having a chat to people across Melbourne who are doing great things in these trying times. This will include people that have launched their own initiatives, as well as individuals and organisations that have adapted to the circumstances. Think of it like an hour-long SOUP talk show packed with feel-good stories and a few tunes from local artists.

ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
