Hello!

My name is David. In May 2022 I rolled my bicycle out my front door in Melbourne, Australia with the intent to cycle all the way back to my old doorstep in my original village (and country of birth) of Cushendall, Northern Ireland.

I've been on road for over 14 months and cycled just over 18,000 kilometres through 7 countries including Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Bangladesh, India and Nepal. Soon I’ll be riding through Central Asia and the Middle East before hitting Europe.

I am passionate about the rights of all people, no matter where we are born to a decent quality of life. I feel very strongly about the right of people to seek asylum when conditions in their home countries become so bad that they do not have a choice but to leave. 

I am super lucky to live in a wealthy country like Australia but our humanitarian efforts could be much improved.

I have already experienced so much kindness and generosity from the countless strangers I’ve met along my journey particularly in countries much less well wealthy than mine. 

Above all I want to spread the message of remembering to have compassion for one another. 

I would love to use my bike ride as an opportunity to raise some money for the ASRC and help support my fellow human beings who are trying to create a better life for themselves.
