Concert for Refugees: Sat 9 Sept, 6.30pm
Story
On Saturday the 9th of September at 6pm, the Coolroom will be presenting a family concert of Classical music. The occasion is a fundraiser for the Asylum Seeker’s Resource Centre in association with local charity Rural Australians for Refugees. The occasion will feature a mixture of classical standards, as well as a world premiere from local composer, Jem Challender (Little Horse, The Anticlinal Fold.)
We are delighted to welcome multi-instrumentalist Claire Patti to the Coolroom in her first show back home after a recent European tour. Claire will be playing the harp, the French horn and singing for us on the occasion.
Claire will be joined by local soprano and early music specialist Astrid Connelly (MSO) and young violin prodigy Thomasina Challender and her father, Jem Challender on piano.
Works to be performed on the evening will include Arvo Pärt, Jean Sibelius, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Johann Pachelbel.
To make a tax deductible donation to the resource centre, you can MAKE IT HERE.. Proceeds from the tickets will be donated to the ASRC.
Admission by donation. Pay what you can. The minimum suggested donation is $25 per person, family $60.

ASRC Footscray (Asylum Seeker Resource Centre)
The Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) is both a place and a movement.
As an independent not for profit organisation, we are owned and run by our community. Our programs empower people seeking asylum to maximise their own physical, mental and social well-being. As a movement, we mobilise and unite communities to create lasting social and policy change for people seeking asylum in Australia.
We assist over 7,000 people seeking asylum each year from our centres in Footscray and Dandenong, Victoria.
